Murega Baichu, the husband to the Meru governor Hon Kawira Mwangaza is not just about to stop micromanaging issues of Meru county.
Despite not being an official in Meru county, Murega Baichu calls the shots and dictates to the wife Kawira Mwangaza on how best to run the county.
At some point, the man who also doubles up as an artist was accused of pocketing millions of money to entertain his wife during the swearing in ceremony.
However, she would later refute these as mere allegations aimed at tarnishing her good image.
“Clarification on lies being peddled by our political competitors. I only assumed office after being sworn in. So there is no way I could have initiated or approved any payment. The inauguration ceremony was budgeted for by Transition Committee chaired by the outgoing Meru County secretary and Meru County Commissioner representing The National Government.
“My husband Murega Baichu was not contracted for performance nor was he paid even a single shilling. But when I receive my first month’s salary nitamnunulia zawadi,” she said.
On his side, Murega Baichu on Thursday through a statement made it clear that his wife will not be available for a meeting with the MCAs in private places such as a bar. Below was the full statement by Baichu:
“From Hustlers Ambassador desk; Meru County MCAs got used to hand outs from the previous regime. That’s how they were able to perform below expectation for 5 years.
They celebrated the Governor even when he was going in the wrong direction and failing; their aim was to milk Meru County dry which they did successfully. – many of them were not re elected.
In 2021 the Governor refused to pay health workers salary amounting to three months because of being involved in a legal strike, of which the workers had tried all available peaceful channels with no success.
The MCAs instead of doing their constitutional requirements which is oversight they supported and celebrated him, they helped him to rape Meru County and tear it a part.
Governor Hon Kawira Mwangaza has refused this tread since her motive is to serve the common mwananchi.
We have seen MCAs in her meetings, even speaking and praising the Governor. What changed? If there is something wrong in all this drama is the MCAs.
Governor coming to meet and address them at in bunge was a way of agreeing to meet them. They should have listened to her and responded. Why did they want to meet her in the street? The bunge is the allowed place for the executive to meet the legislature. That’s my view. Meeting in a bar or elsewhere, who would take the minutes of such a meeting? How would they pass whatever they agreed with and vice versa? No, the Assembly cannot vacate their seats and leave them to strangers. How could all those men and women decamp? To where did they go? To Nchiru? Or to where? And why did they want to transact house business outside of bunge? Buu bwonwa ku?
Let everybody do his/her work and allow the Governor to work for the people of Meru. Hustlers wenye tuliwachagua, we are watching. Happy mashujaa day. “
