Bad News For Nairobi Landlords As KRA Goes After Them In A Bid To Expand Tax Base

Date:

The Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) will on Wednesday, October 19 unveil a plan that seeks to expand the tax income in Nairobi City County.

According to the statement from the Authority, the taxman will undertake data collection on rental properties located in the country’s capital city.

The Authority has urged members of the public to cooperate with its officials who will be undertaking the exercise.

“KRA officers conducting the exercise will identify themselves using KRA staff identification cards that can be verified by dialing USSD code *572#, through the KRA M-service App or using KRA Thibitisha which is hosted on the website www.kra.go.ke,” part of the statement read.

Earlier this year, the taxman said that it was implementing a Geographical Information System (GIS) that intended to capture all the rental properties in its system.

“We will be targeting all existing landlords who are not tax compliant as well as those with upcoming buildings both residential and commercial,” the authority said.
