Drama And Confusion As Justin Muturi, Junet Mohammed Clash During Vetting Of The Attorney General Nominee

Date:

Justin Muturi is among individuals that were appointed by President William Ruto who are being vetted today by Members of parliament

Muturi was nominated for the attorney general position and he appeared before the Appointments Committee after Musalia Mudavadi, who was the first CS to be vetted.

During the vetting, the matter of the continuous withdrawal of charges facing Ruto’s allies was brought up. Muturi said that the Director of Public Prosecution was best suited to respond to that because the reasons for withdrawing charges are best known to himself.

Junet however interrupted him saying that the DPP  should give reasons for withdrawing cases.

“The constitution says that the DPP must give reasons to the court and not just drop them like that according to  Article 157(8) of the constitution,” the Suna East lawmaker said.

Muturi, who is nicknamed a walking constitution, however, interjected explaining what the constitution says about the matter.

“It does not say that. It says the DPP will not withdraw except with the leave of the court. So we wait for the court,” Muturi said while boasting about his knowledge of the constitution.

Junet however objected and preferred to read directly from the constitution.

“No, let me read from the constitution, it says, DPP may not discontinue a prosecution without the permission of the court,” he said.

It however turned out that it was the same just as Muturi was explaining thus causing laughter among members.

“I think we are saying the same thing with the honorable member because but again because we don’t know whether the courts have given permission,” Muturi concluded.
