List Of Ruto’s Cabinet Appointees Who Might Not Make It To Office

Date:

A number of cabinet secretaries that were appointed by President William Ruto on Tuesday might end up being rejected by the parliament.

The appointees’ names will be submitted to parliament for vetting and some might be rejected by MPs because of integrity issues and ongoing court cases.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna claimed that half of the cabinet appointees are criminals. He urged MPs to ensure that they do not make it to the cabinet.

If our colleagues in the National Assembly stay true to their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, more than half of those criminals proposed should not make it to Cabinet,” he said.

However, below is a list of individuals that are likely to be rejected,

1.Aisha Jumwa

President Ruto appointed the former Malindi MP as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action. She is however facing murder charges at the Mombasa High court.

Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Okudo are believed to be behind the murder of Gumbao Jola, an ODM supporter. The incident occurred  in 2019 during the by-elections in Ganda Ward, Malindi constituency.

She is also facing Ksh 19 million graft charges. She is accused of embezzling the funds that were meant for Malindi Constituency Development Fund.

2.Mithika Linturi

The former Meru senator was appointed to succeed Peter Munya in the Agriculture and Livestock Development docket.

He is facing attempted rape charges. He is accused of attempting to rape a middle aged woman on January 30, 2021 while at the Maiyan Villas Hotel in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

According to court papers, it is alleged that Linturi sneaked to the woman’s hotel room where she was staying with her husband. Her husband was not in the room at the time. The woman thought that it was her husband who had returned and did not bother to check who the person was. She only noticed that there was an intruder in a room when her husband came back.

Earlier this year, he faced incitement charges but the case was dropped after the prosecution failed to confirm charges against him

3. Moses Kuria

The former Gatundu South MP landed the cabinet secretary role at the Trade, Investment and Industry ministry.

Kuria has however found himself on the wrong side of the law multiple times. He once faced assault charges and the matter was reported at Kilimani police station. He was accused of assaulting a woman identified as Joyce Wanja, an activist, at Royal media offices. Wanja claimed that Kuria descended on her with kicks and blows while in the line of duty.

Previously he was on the spot over hate speech remarks although charges against him were dropped. He also publicly confessed how he was involved with rigging in the previous general elections.

A section of Kenyans have however expressed concerns that those with court cases will have their cases dropped within a week over lack of evidence.
