Drama As T.J Kajwang’ Disowns Azimio Supporters Who Escorted Him To Confront Chebukati

Date:

Police on Monday were forced to use teargas to disperse a section of Azimio MPs and their supporters who were protesting outside IEBC offices at anniversary towers.

The MPs led by Ruaraka MP T.J Kajwang’ marched to IEBC offices in a bid to protest the sacking of the commission’s deputy CEO Ruth Kulundu.

The lawmakers are accusing IEBC of  witch-hunt and victimization of officials that appear friendly to Azimio. They want the deputy CEO to be reinstated.

They were seeking an audience with IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati but police barred them from accessing the offices because of the huge numbers of supporters escorting them.

The police engaged with Kajwang’ in a brief conversation questioning  him why they would take 500 people to IEBC offices. He argued that those were not Azimio supporters but Kenyans who were interested in the matter.

“This is the thing, it is part of our duty. This what we were elected to do Those are not our people, why would you put people on me, they are Kenyans who are interested, I can’t control Kenyans,” he told the officers

The police however asked Kajwang’ and his team to reorganize themselves before proceeding to meet with the electoral body officials. They also offered to escort them to the offices.

Kulundu was kicked out of office on Tuesday last week over allegations of  gross misconduct, insubordination and participation in illegal activities, contrary to her employment terms of service.

In her interdiction letter, IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan accused her of impersonating him and arranging an illegal meeting with four IEBC commissioners who eventually rejected the August 9 polls presidential results.
