Turkana governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has responded to plans by EACC to have him arrested and charged over forgery of academic documents.
Speaking at an event on Saturday, the governor accused the anti-graft body of harassing elected leaders asking them to take it slow.
He added that he will not go into hiding as some governors do whenever they find themselves in trouble with authorities.
“Even those institutions that have been harassing governors, they should come slowly. I am not ready to be harrassed. I won’t be seeking a hideout. Governors are hidden in trees because some people are coming to arrest them. For me I will be arrested while in office,” Lomurukai said.
According to him, the allegations against him are just a plan to undermine county bosses from delivering their mandate, thus echoing what deputy president Rigathi Gachagua said during governors’ induction in Mombasa.
The first time governor who was elected on an ODM ticket is on EACC’s radar for forging his degree and diploma certificates from Kenya Methodist University in order to be cleared by IEBC to vie for the elective seat in the August 9 general elections.
It was established that the governor’s academic documents were fake following an investigation by EACC.
Lomurukai is among the 241 individuals that had been flagged by EACC over integrity issues before the general elections. IEBC however proceeded to clear him and other individuals on the list.
Aside from forgery charges, he will also be charged with giving false information to the anti-graft body and “uttering false documents contrary to section 353 of the Penal Code.”
