Why Raila Might Find Himself Alone In Protests To Send Home Martha Koome And Her Colleagues

Date:

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday made a scathing attack on the Judiciary after jetting in the country from a trip in Zanzibar where he had gone to heal,  alongside his family, following the ‘shock they suffered’ from the outcome of the general elections.

Raila shamed the Judiciary for dismissing the presidential petition and even threatened to lead a million people in protests  to send members of the Judiciary home.

Lawyer Areba Omwoyo has however faulted Raila’s remarks saying that they were disappointing since he often describes himself as a champion of democracy.

“I think this was a very sad statement from someone who describes himself as a champion of post-independence democracy and rule of law. We were in court with representatives of Azimio-OKA and of course they did make reservations in terms of ruling.  As a legal practitioner I don’t have, at times, to agree with a ruling more so if it goes against the wishes of my client. At the end of the day, I have the responsibility to obey it and preserve the sanctity of the court,” the lawyer said.

He added that none of the Kenyans is likely to join Raila in the protests because the political season is over and Kenyans want to move on with life.

“The Azimio leader has to decide whether he is doing politics or playing his opposition roles. I think where we are past politics and I think not a million people will demonstrate, not a thousand or even 10 because the fatigue of elections is past us now and it seems that most people want to move on. Again removing of the Supreme Court judges is not done on the streets of Nairobi, there is a clear procedure of how to remove them,” Omwoyo said

On the other hand, Ambrose Weda, who is also a lawyer, slammed Raila for calling for protests after coming from a luxury holiday.

“Then you come and tell [Poor] Kenyans prepare yourselves for a demonstration. Some of you will be killed and buried, some will be beaten, your economy will go down you will go home and sleep hungry but he will go for a holiday and enjoy massages,” Weda said.
