MPs and Senators will today vote for the Speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly and Senate respectively after the conclusion of their swearing in ceremony that is currently underway.
Details have however emerged that some MPs are being bought to support candidates that have been fronted by coalitions.
According to Imenti North MP, Rahim Daud, one of the MPs who vied on an independent ticket was offered a lot of money to change his vote in favor of another candidate.
He however said that as independent candidates they had already decided to support Kenya Kwanza candidates.
“Being independent candidates we are being pressured a lot. One of my colleagues has been offered a lot of money to change his vote to the other side but I believe we as Independents have already agreed which way we are going. My colleague told me he was offered half a million shillings and I am just surprised where that kind of money is coming from,” the MP told NTV reporters.
Rahim added that he had also been approached but chose to ignore. He however made it clear that his vote belongs to Moses Wetang’ula and Gladys Boss Shollei, who are going for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively. He further said that he had known Wetangu’la for long while he has only met his opponent on one occasion.
Wetang’ula and Shollei will be facing off Kenneth Marende and Farah Maalim respectively.
