The battles between Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi have escalated after the DP’s visit to Talai elders on Friday, June 5.
Moi’s allies lashed out at Ruto for seeking the Talai elders’ blessing for his presidential ambitions and said the community wanted to bless the Baringo senator.
Speaking to the Nation, Kenya African National Union (KANU) secretary-general Nick Salat said it was clearly evident that the second in command was only interested in his selfish interest and nothing about the country and the Kalenjin community. Salat said the same elders had plans to give Moi the blessing of being the Kalenjin’s community.
“He has been blasting others for visiting shrines but what happened is a sign of desperation and wants the community to sympathise with him,” he said.
The KANU secretary-general said no one in Rift Valley would feel bad for Ruto for what his camp was going through for jeopardising President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda.
“The Friday meeting had no impact on us at all, he added. The DP was crowned by the Talai clan and given a special baton as a sign of trust of his leadership by the Kalenjin community in the early morning meeting which started at 7am.
The brief event was conducted by the respected clan in Kapsisiywa, Nandi county, in the morning with elders bestowing blessings upon the second in command. The early dawn rituals became a subject of discussion with many internet users mocking the country’s number two for turning to tradition when he always claimed to be Godly.
However, the elders firmly stated they have never practised witchcraft or sorcery as a section of DP’s critics stated but said they simply prayed for him and blessed him in his pursuit of the top seat.
