Ruto Loses To Raila In Round One At The Supreme Court As He Is Dealt A Huge Blow

Date:

President elect William Samoei Ruto was on Tuesday dealt a huge blow by the Supreme court of Kenya after they threw out most of his petitions.

The Supreme Court has rejected three applications that William Ruto had taken to the court. The three include his request to bar the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) from being enjoined in the 2022 election petition. It is believed that Ruto did not want the LSK from this case since it would work to his disadvantage.

He argued that LSK cannot be neutral because Martha Karua is a member and a petitioner but the court ruled that LSK will be joined in the petition as amicus curiae for expertise to help the apex court reach a fair decision.

The second petition that the United Democratic Alliance leader relied on was one by the Gatundu South member of parliament Moses Kuria together with former Mbeere South MP Geoffrey King’ang’I, who had filed the petition urging the judges to dismiss Mr Raila’s suit on grounds that he was involved in election violence.

The court further struck out the petition by William Samoei Ruto where he sought to lock out the Attorney General from the petition.

According to the Daily Nation, the court further allowed application by John Walubengo, Dr. Joseph Sevilla and Martin Mirero seeking leave to be joined in the petition as amici curiae. Also allowed was the application to admit on record the replying affidavits of Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit.
