Ruto’s Past Remarks That Have Made Kenyans Believe He Is Behind Mutyambai’s Exit From Office

Date:

Kenyans have been thrown into confusion after the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai revealed that  he will be away from office for a number of days.

In the statement that was shared on the National police service social media channels, Mutyambai said that he was immediately taking a break to undergo a medical checkup.

He added that his deputy Noor Gabow will be handling his responsibilities from the time that he will be away.

“This is to inform the general public that I will be away from the office attending to a medical checkup effective today – August 26 2022. In my absence, Mr Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service, will act as the Inspector General of the National Police Service until my return,” Mutyambai stated.

A number of Kenyans are however not convinced that Mutyambai has taken a break from work due to medical reasons. Some are claiming that he has taken the step due to some sort of pressure emanating from the political field. Others praised Gabow for saving the country when chaos erupted at Bomas of Kenya hoping that Mutyambai would not return to office.

Some also claimed that he was running away from occurrences that might haunt him after taking sides in politics.

Here are some of the reactions.

“Sorry for the medical issue but as you heal you owe this country an apology you have mishandled the election process in all phases by being unprofessional and partisan we also remember you bent the law for your family,” a twitter user claimed.

“Stranger than fiction. Something is happening. Someone pulled a string and it’s not Azimio. Ask me why,” Blogger Robert Alai said.

Another netizens dug up a past interview of president elect William Ruto where he slammed Mutyambai as an incompetent Inspector general of police.

That was in late June during a meeting with a delegation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) at Karen.

“We doubt the command. We have a serious problem with the command of the police. We have the most incompetent Inspector General of the Police. In fact, the current IG is the president of Kenya (Uhuru Kenyatta), who is the leader of Azimio,” Ruto said then.

The move by the Inspector General comes days after Ruto was declared as the president-elect.

Mutyambai assumed office in 2019 and his term officially ends in April 2023.
