A 27 year old man allegedly killed his mother Roselyn Nyawanga then stayed with the body in the house for more than 20 hours before relatives became suspicious after her calls went unanswered.
According to the Nairobian Newspaper, not even Roeslyn’s neighbors At the Migingo girls high school where the deceased was deputy principal noticed something had gone wrong inside her house, until when the woman’s oldest son came knocking.
Roselyn lived in the institution’s teachers’ quarter and the local daily has reported that she might have been killed on August 20th by her son Jeff Onyango who is not only a veteran drug addict but also unstable in the mind.
Another son by the name Steven who found the body revealed that it was disposed in the bathroom and was burnt beyond recognition. He came to see the mum after her phone went unanswered on many occasions.
The police in Kisumu county have treated Jeff Onyango as the prime suspect although it remains a mystery whether the deceased was stabbed to death before being burned or vice versa. The bathroom walls had been blackened with a smudge of soot and a kitchen knife, parafin mug and a lantern lamp were found near the murder scene.
The Nairobian added that Steven, who arrived at the house at around 8:00 PM, knocked at the door severely but there was no immediate response. After waiting patiently outside, he heard movements inside before Jeff opened the door. When Steven stepped into the house, he found his mother’s body burned beyond recognition. He alerted neighbors and police arrested the suspect. Roslyn’s body is currently at the Star Annex Morgue awaiting postmortem.
Colleagues who live in the same compound were left in shock at the tragedy. A worker who’s house is next to Roslyn said he never had any commotion in the House. It is believed the killer son took advantage of the heavy rainfall to commit the murder.
