Man Suspected To Be Behind Raila, Cherera Controversial Speeches Unveiled

Date:

Kenyans have been left talking after Azimio leader Raila Odinga and IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera gave their separate addresses to the nation.

This is after part of their speeches, which they read on Tuesday August 16 afternoon resembled.

Raila was addressing the nation at KICC where he gave his opinion and that of Azimio regarding the general elections that were conducted on Tuesday August 9, 2022 and the results of the presidential elections which were released on Monday August 16 at the Bomas of Kenya. He said that they considered the results that Wafula Chebukati read null and void since majority of the commissioners disowned the results.

“The figures announced by Mr. Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law.  In our view, there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a President-Elect.  Mr. Chebukati’s announcement purporting to announce a winner is a NULLITY,” Raila said

On the other hand, Cherera and three commissioners of IEBC namely;  Irene Cherop, Justus Abonyo and Francis Wanderi, were at Serena hotel to give more details on why they did not agree with the presidential results that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati announced on Monday.

In their speeches both teams quoted Maina Kiai’s case saying, ““we reiterate, as we conclude that there is no doubt from the architecture of the laws we have considered that the people of Kenya did not intend to vest or concentrate such sweeping and boundless powers in one individual , the chairperson of the appellant.”

Questions have been raised over why the teams decided to quote the same thing in the speeches that were given at the same time.

Others have suggested that one team might have borrowed notes from the other while some have claimed that they might be working together and that the four commissioners’ ‘cooperation’ might have been bought.

However, Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen claims that the speeches were written by one Paul Mwangi.

Mwangi is a lawyer and a writer who is associated with Azimio.

In a tweet, Murkomen claimed that he had forgotten to twist one of the speeches so that they don’t look similar.

“My friend @PaulMMwangi forgot to tweak one of the statements to look different from the  other,” Murkomen said.
