Opinion polls released by Trends and Insights for Africa on Tuesday August 2 indicate that Nairobi’s top seat firmly belongs to William Ruto and UDA .
UDA’s candidate Johnson Sakaja is the most preferred candidate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race with a popularity of 53%. His main competitor Polycarp Igathe comes second with 36% while the rest of the candidates’ popularity is below 1%. 10% of those who participated in the polls are yet to make decisions on who their preferred candidate for the position is.
The presidential polls indicate that Ruto is slowly reducing the difference between him and Raila in the same county. Currently, Raila is ahead of Ruto with only 18% as compared to June when Raila beat him with a whole 25%. Raila’s popularity stands at 52% while Ruto is at 34%. Those who are undecided on who to support are at 8%.
Edwin Sifuna is the most preferred senatorial candidate in Nairobi with 47%. UDA’s Margret Wanjiku follows at 19%. The same trend is witnessed in the Women Rep Position with ODM’s Esther Passaris with 44% while Millicent Omanga stands at 28%.
In terms of party popularity in Nairobi, UDA has witnessed a tremendous growth between the months of July and August. The party’s popularity rose from 22% in June to 30% in August while ODM only gained 5% popularity in the mentioned months although it is leading with 35%.
In Kajiado Ruto, his UDA party has also emerged as the most popular party with 31%. Raila’s ODM comes second with 28% while Jubilee is position three with 9%.
