Wetangula’s attempt to throw out rebel MP’s quashed by Registrar of Political Parties

Date:

Today morning, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was dealt a major blow by the Registrar of Political Parties, Pamela Nderitu after it nullified disciplinary action against two MPs who attempted to oust the senator.

Wetangula had chaired a Ford-Kenya Parliamentary Group meeting that suspended the party Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

The Registrar stated that the meeting convened to have the two suspended did not meet the applicable quorum and had not been properly convened.

The registrar added that Wetangula did not submit the statutory form PP7, which is used to notify the registrar of any changes among party officials.

Wetangula will now have to convene another PG meeting and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to rectify changes pointed out by the Registrar.

Additionally, Nderitu acknowledged that Wetangula was still the party leader in a letter dated Thursday, June 4.
She observed that the NEC and PG meeting convened on May 31, 2020, by some members of the party did not meet the applicable quorum to hear and determine disciplinary matters in line with the party’s constitution.

Nderitu also noted that the statutory form PP7 on Notice of Change of Party Officials was not filed.

Allies of the Ford Kenya party in the region vowed that colleagues who openly supported the ouster of Wetang’ula as Party Leader must be expelled.

The Registrar also asked Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi’s team to rectify the anomaly observed in the PP7 form, where a member who was not authorised to sign the document signed it.

“The statutory form PP7 was not properly signed by the authorised officials as per the records held by this office. In this regard, you are kindly guided to address the issue highlighted above and appraise us on the same,” said Nderitu in a letter dated June 4 to Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu.

Save for the statutory form, Wamunyinyi’s faction has to address the issue highlighted by the Registrar and they will be in control of the party.
