Agony Of Two Women Whose Husbands Disappeared After A Successful Business Trip

Date:

The families of Derrick Mureti and Lawrence Mawira are living in agony following the disappearance of the duo without trace towards the end of last month after a business trip to Kakuma, Turkana county.

Mureti and Mawira, who are friends, embarked on the trip to deliver solar panels in Kakuma but went missing on their way back to Nairobi.

Mureti’s wife Cate Mukami told the Nation that the two friends spent the night of June 28 at Lodwar before proceeding with their trip to Nairobi on June 29. That is the last time that she communicated with her husband.

The couple had been in communication until around 2pm when Mureti stopped responding to her messages. She called him and discovered his phone was off.

On the other hand, Mawira’s wife Emma Njeri said that she had spoken to her husband that morning and he informed her that they were passing through Kitale and he also stopped texting at around 2pm.

The women thought that maybe their husbands were experiencing network issues or their phone batteries had died only for them to be informed through one of Mureti’s cousin  that the car they were using, which belonged to Mureti, had been found abandoned in Salgaa .

The police towed the car to Salgaa police station and it was later picked up by Mureti’s business partner under the Cantara Enterprises. The victim ran a construction materials and transport business. Eye witnesses told the women that the car was abandoned by an unknown person who was picked up by another car a few moments later.

Mukami and Njeri filed missing persons reports but since then, they have not been updated on anything about their cases. Their children are on their neck regarding the whereabouts of their fathers. Mawira has a four year old daughter while Mureti’s son is about a year and a half old.

The two noted that their husbands didn’t have any notable issues with anyone that could have led to their kidnapping. According to Njeri, her husband had previously accompanied Mureti on several trips to deliver cement and other construction materials.

“It is frightening that the police remain silent on this matter. Our family is very young. What should I tell my daughter when she asks about her father?” Njeri said.

“Derrick is a man liked by everyone, he never had issues with anyone. I just want to get answers from the police. Cases of disappearances have been on the rise recently and I am very worried for my husband and his friend,” she added.
