DP William Ruto has responded to those criticizing him for forcing the presidency on Uhuru Kenyatta such that he nearly slapped him for giving up after the High Court, under the leadership of former chief Justice David Maraga nullified the 2017 presidential elections.
Speaking during a Kenya Kwanza rally in Meru on Monday, Ruto told off his opponents saying that he would have not left the seat for them after putting in so much effort to make Uhuru president.
He further said that the Azimio people have never voted for Uhuru for them to give his team lectures regarding their relationship with the head of state.
“I want to tell the Azimio people those things you are spreading in radio stations about how William Ruto pushed Uhuru Kenyatta, did you want Uhuru Kenyatta to leave the seat that we had woken up very early to vote for him to be president for you?” Ruto posed.
“It is us who woke up very early to vote for Uhuru Kenyatta. Would you have wanted me to allow him to leave the seat that we had looked for him for Raila. Where is the mistake if I forced him to become president, he is my friend,” he added.
Ruto insisted that he would not have let Raila take up the leadership of the country especially after he was the one who had done most of the job for Jubilee to win elections.
“They have recorded people saying that William Ruto was forcing Uhuru to be president. I am the one who did most of the campaigns. I used to wake up very early, conduct three meetings before the president arrived and because he is my friend, I helped him and I wouldn’t have allowed Raila to snatch the seat from him,” he said.
