A former Kiambaa chief came out to expose the dark side of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, during his days as a District Officer.
In 1992, Gachagua was transferred to the region where the chief served and he was the one who picked him from the District Commissioner’s office.
As he was dropping him off to his destination, Gachagua asked him for a Kshs50,000 loan to pay for a car that he had imported from Dubai saying he had to pick it as soon as possible since the excise duty was accumulating.
The chief gave Gachagua the money without any hesitation since he had promised to return it.
“The D.O stayed with the money, not for a year, two years, three nor 10, but 30 years. Till date he has not given me my money,” the chief narrated in a YouTube interview revealing Gachagua owes him even more from his small expenses that he would meet from time to time.
The law maker would then backbite him at the DCs office to ruin his reputation. At one time he organized a Baraza meeting and accused the chief of squandering money meant for development in the area.
“When he started speaking, he said ‘you have a very bad chief, he is bribed by chang’aa brewers, he has swindled all the school money’,” the chief, who was present at the meeting, recounted. The locals however responded to Gachagua saying that he was not guilty of any of his accusations and that he should go and gossip about him in the office and not before them.
The chief resigned after the Baraza incident while Gachagua wrote a report claiming that he had run away.
“Gachagua wanted to see me miserable to the end. He sent police men to kill me at Karura Forest,” the chief claimed.
The police officer could however not obey the order because they would have been held responsible since they were seen taking him from his home. He reported the matter to court and was given protection.
Gachagua is yet to comment on the allegations.
