Cold Hearted Nurse? Garissa Man Sustains Serious Burns After A Nurse Friend Advised Him To ‘Burn’ Himself

Date:

A nurse from Garissa is in serious trouble after he advised his friend to pour methylated spirit on himself and light a matchstick so as to establish whether he can get burnt.

According to a report by the National Police Service, Mohamed Harut, a resident of Kora Kora area of Iftin, sustained serious burn injuries on his chest, face and hands in the incident that occurred on Friday.

NPS states that the victim had escorted a patient to the Mukono hospital where his friend works as a nurse. Innocently, he consulted the medic if the methylated spirit he saw at the desk could cause burns.

“In jest, the nurse misadvised his friend to douse himself with the liquid and strike a matchstick. This, he suggested, would answer his friend’s question perfectly. Mohamed, trusting the nurse, followed the advice by applying the tingling liquid on his ski,” part of  the police statement read.

After striking a matchstick, Harut found himself in big trouble as a  huge fire erupted covering him.

“The inquisitive-hospital-guest-turned-patient sustained serious burns on the chest, face and arms and was transferred to Ghal Private Hospital for further treatment from Mukono Hospital where he had initially been,” the statement further revealed.

The police service noted that the nurse was at fault for making his friend go through the pain, an incident that could have been avoided if he could have just given him a correct answer.

“Causing others to inflict harm and injuries to themselves is a criminal offence. So serious is the offence of aiding, such that in case an act inflicts grievous harm, the consequence can be grave and may even lead to life imprisonment. Reckless acts can equally earn someone a prison term. We urge the public to desist from dangerous acts that may inflict harm to themselves, and those around them” NPS said.

The matter is being investigated by Iftin Police officers.
