“Sending Raila to Bondo” should be immediately declared as one of the a thousand ways to end political careers especially in areas perceived to be strongholds for Tinga’s opponents.
It seems the average Mt. Kenya voter has outgrown propaganda and nolonger buy the outdated narrative of “we must send Raila to Bondo.”
Despite being a populist term, these voters have proven beyond reasonable doubts that they are interested in listening to the agenda that you are selling to them as opposed to empty narratives such as let as vote this way to punish so and so.
Well, there are a number of Ruto’s allies who were to the surprise of many Kenyans sent home in the just concluded United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations.
One of those leaders is Isaac Mwaura who has on several occasions premised his campaigns on “we must send Raila to Bondo.” Instead of telling the people what he would do to them if elected, leaders like Mwaura believe that voters only pay attention to such popular terms as opposed to meaningul manifestos.
Interestingly, Ruiru voters during their UDA nomination exercise held on Thursday sent Isaac mwaura to the darkest end of political oblivion before his dreams of sending the “old man to Bondo” materializes. That was too fast and too punitive from the no nonsense Ruiru voters!
Another politician who used such terms as sending Raila to Bondo was Laikipia woman rep Cate Waruguru. During her campaigns in Laikipia, waruguru took a swipe at Raila as she urged Kenyans to reject him and send him to Bondo.
Fast-forward, the same laikipia voters on Thursday sent cate Waruguru to her village before raila goes to Bondo and she may have to wait for 5 years or more to see the inside of parliament. Cate Waruguru was eyeing the Laikipia East MP but was defeated by one Amin Deddy, who got 12,743 votes. Waruguru, on the other hand, got 5,595, a difference of more than 7,000 votes.
Bomet woman rep Joyce Korir equally at some point in a public rally made it clear that the ODM had to be sent to Bondo as early as 6AM but just as others, she never lived in the political limelight to see her prophesy materialize as Bomet voters punished her by sending her back to her village even before Tinga heads to his opoda farm.
Perhaps, Raila opponents should just avoid using the term “sending him to Bondo” because clearly its not working in their favor.
