Details Of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Brother Who Has Never Set Foot In Kenya Since 1979

Date:

President Uhuru Kenyatta has an older brother known as Peter Magana Kenyatta who was last in Kenya in 1979.

That was during the memorial service of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and since then he has never returned to the country.

Magana is the Third born of Mzee Kenyatta, whom he got with his second wife Edna Clarke. In total, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta had four wives but Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother, Mama Ngina, is the most common in the public face and is referred to as the former First Lady and she happens to be the youngest wife of the former head of state. The other two are Grace Wanjiku)died in 1951) and Grace Wahu who was the eldest.

Mzee Jomo and Clarke met while he had gone to the United Kingdom, for his second trip, after landing a job at the AG Lindfields Nurseries in the Thakeham Parish. He married her in May 1942, without informing her that he had a wife and two children back in Kenya.

Magana was born in 1943 at Worthing Hospital, West Sussex. Three years later, Mzee Jomo left the UK for Kenya to participate in the fight for independence, leaving behind Clarke and her son. Magana’s mother however died in 1995.

Some of the events that it was expected he would show up include the funeral of Kenyatta’s first wife Grace Wahu, which was in 2007, the inauguration of president Uhuru Kenyatta as the head of state in 2013 and 2017 respectively, the burial of his step sister Margaret Wambui and it is not clear whether he attend the burial of his elder brother Peter Muigai in 1979.
