Nominated senator Millicent Omanga is among the long list of female politicians that have set their eyes on Nairobi Women Rep seat in the coming general elections.
Omanga’s main competitor is the current Women Rep Esther Passaris who was elected on an ODM ticket in 2017.
Others eyeing the seat include former Nairobi Women Rep Rachel Shebesh, actress Dorea Chege popularly known as Maggie from Maria Tv series among others from different walks of life.
In 2017, Omanga was defeated in Jubilee party primaries, whereby Shebesh was handed Jubilee’s ticket to vie for the position.
The senator however says that she is confident that this is her time to emerge victorious. Speaking to Radio Jambo, the curvaceous senator explained why she is special and the right person for the position
“That’s Omanga’s even if you ask the people. First, because of the work that I have been doing and this is a seat of affirmative action. The office is meant for dealing with the soft issues in the society and if you see here in Nairobi, there are still gaps, it has not reached the required level.
“We still have gender based violence, drug abuse, alcoholism, school dropouts that end up being thieves as others get killed. This office needs to set aside a rehabilitation center with mentorship programmes especially to the boychild who has been forgotten. Then there are people with disabilities and women who are supposed to be given some money for table banking but we have not seen such things being done by the incumbent,” Omanga noted.
“For me I am just a nominated senator. I don’t have money for affirmative but with my little earnings, I brought a law in parliament for helping the disabled children. I have done a lot of things that I feel if I were in the seat, I would do more,” she added.
Omanga however is not scared to lose the seat because she says that she is open minded and it is not a matter of life and death.
“I am always open-minded and I pray to God to give me grace . If I don’t win, it is not life and death but the will of the citizens. But the way I am seeing and the way I have been praying, I know it is my time.” Omanga said.
