Ezekiel Mutua’s Message To Kenyan Artists Moments After They Protested His Appointment To MCSK

Date:

Former Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua was announced as the new CEO of the Music Copyright of Kenya CEO.

MCSK settled on Mutua after a competitive talent hunting process that saw him emerge top among those who were interested in filling the position.

Mutua was pleased to take up the new role saying that he is going to defend and promote the rights of musicians in the country.

“I have received with profound gratitude my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians,” Mutua shared on his Twitter account.

A number of artists however expressed their displease saying that he did nothing at KFCB and appointing him to MCSK was not a good decision.

“Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is a disappointment. What did he do for film? Kenya continues to elevate mediocrity. This is just sad,” Bien of Sauti Sol said and was seconded by his colleague Chimano who said, “Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is such nonsense… Recycling bin inc. That’s what we are.”

“Hii Kenya tunasonga steps mbili Mbele Alafu Kumi Nyuma‍️‍️. Wembe itakua ni ile ile. Akileta unafiki tutafanya kama WILL SMITH,” Eric Omondi said.

Mutua has however promised the artists that he will work for the artists and with them to make music meaningful.

“To all Kenyan musicians my message is simple: I will work for you and with you to make music profitable and meaningful. I will fight for you, defend your rights and put conversations about music at the front table like I did with film,” he shared on twitter on Tuesday.
