The National Police Service has addressed the viral clip in what seemed to be an abduction of an unidentified lady along Thika Road.
In a statement shared on their social media handles, NPS said that investigations have established that the incident involves a couple but the matter is being investigated at Kasarani police station.
“Following inquiries from the public regarding a viral video clip where a woman appears to be abducted in a probox on Thika road, NPS wishes to confirm that the incident is under investigation by Kasarani police.” NPS said
“It has since been established that the incident involves a couple (boyfriend and girlfriend) who had a disagreement after a social outing within the city. The lady wanted to alight and go home, whilst the boyfriend insisted on spending the evening together,” the statement further read.
NPS said that the widely circulated video was taken by a member of the public. The police however say that the couple reported to the police so as to withdraw the matter. The driver of the Probox is however not off the hook yet.
“Yesterday after reconciliation, the couple reported to the police purposely to withdraw the matter from police action. Police are still considering pressing charges against the motorist who endangered the lady and other road users,” NPS said.
Reports however indicate that the driver of the probox has been arrested.
The video clip went viral on Sunday but was allegedly recorded on Saturday night. According to the video, the lady could be heard screaming as passersby tried to stop the probox that sped off.
