Deputy president William Samoei Ruto has sent a stern warning to the government of Kenya for taking strict action against the bodaboda youths following the Forest Road Incident.
William Ruto while addressing a group of boda boda at his karen home on Thursday wondered why the whole sector was being streamlined instead of just dealing with the single case at the Forest Road.
The deputy president further challenged the government to also pay attention to the corruption in the country and not just the bodabodas.
“wale ambao wanadharau biashara ya bodaboda should listen to you. You speak ten times better than they speak. Me nashangaa na watu wa kenya hii nikikutana na watu wa Nairobi stock exchange hakuna mtu analalmika. Nikikutana na watu wa bankers association hakuna mtu analalamika lakini ukikutana na watu mahustler wa bodaboda watu wanalalamika na kupiga kelele why? Madharau ni ya nini? Posed Ruto in response to a bodaboda youth who had just spoken.
“Na kama kuna watu sio wazuri kwa bodaboda kuna watu sio wazuri kwa sectors zote. Mpaka ndani ya serikali ya Kenya si kuna watu wakora wezi? Hawa walioiba pesa ya Covid si ni wafanyikazi wa serikali? Sasa tutasema serikali yote ivunjwe kwa sababu kuna wezi vile mnasema ati sector yote ya bodaboda ivunjwe?” Posed Ruto.
Ruto’s sentiments come a few days after a woman was sexually assaulted by a group of boda boda youths. So mad were the youths that they literally undressed the lady while caressing the whole of her body.
From the background, the boda boda youths pursued the helpless lady who was trying to evade the accident scene probably for her own safety. However, they caught up with her and started pulling her from the vehicle.
On her side, the lady went wild and was screaming for help from the other motorists as the angry hyenas continued to caress, touch and remove her clothes.
However, what shocked many Kenyans was the rate at which they were chanting William Ruto’s favorite campaign narrative of hustler vs dynasties. They were chanting “dynasty amemgonga hustler (dynasty has knocked a hustler) as they ambushed the woman.
The Forest Road incident has led to mixed reactions with a number of Kenyans in the social media having the following to say:
“That forest road video is a chilling demonstration of the already growing concern about the criminal gang some Boda boda riders have become. To imagine that causing an accident can be a ticket to sexually and physically violate a female driver is despicable.”
“I hope the criminals are identified and prosecuted. No woman or any individual should have to go through such a traumatizing experience. These characters will lynch, rob, burn or destroy and now even sexually anyone in a car involved in a motorbike accident.”
“Maybe it’s such instances that reinforce the dangerous but necessary notion that if you hit a Boda boda guy, only stop at the next police station. Just for information, only ride on a motorbike that has a special STAGE IDENTIFYING NUMBER besides the number plate because they fake or remove those plates when in such criminal activities. That Stage number can be used to identify the exact number where they operate from, get their chairperson and you can easily get the rider incase they rob, lynch or violate your rights.
“Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI If the country will move on like nothing happened after that video ,Then Women Have a reason to feel Unsafe in this country !!!! The Forest Road video is traumatizing !!”
“Maaaaan I’m out of words ,Sorry ,i hope that woman Gets helps soonest !If no one acts,We leaving this country to the dogs.Bodaboda guys is a menace in this country.”
“The so Women leaders should also act ,Women parliamentarians Act,Women Activism groups Act ,Women in media Raise this issue and call for justice! The Physical,Sexual,Mental torture on that lady is beyond comprehension !!#Actnow!! #forestroadaccident.”
