Deputy president William Samoei Ruto was on Monday put in a tight corner by an Azimio supporter in the United Kingdom (UK) at the prestigious Chatham house.
William Ruto was put to task by the woman who introduced herself as Rosemary Adigor. Apparently, the lady claimed that she was the PR and marketing director for the Azimio the UK chapter.
The woman challenged Ruto to explain what he would do differently to tackle the unprecedented corruption in the country given that he is still in the same government.
According to the lady, Ruto was not new to her since she knew him very well with regards to the corruption allegations back at home.
“Mr. Deputy president I have got two questions for you. My name is Rosemary Adigor and I am the PR and marketing director for the Azimio UK chapter. First, when you formed the government with His Excellency President Kenyatta he treated you more like a principal and in that case you were given some of the most powerful dockets as any deputy president. We have never seen that sort of thing.
“So that was generosity from his part but you also played it because you also brought the numbers with you. So what I want to ask is what are you going to do differently having seen the level of corruption that engulfed our country to an extent whereby people can’t even afford to buy milk, people can’t even afford to buy even just oil, and yet we have people who are just rolling in lots of money.” Continued the woman in a direct attack aimed at Ruto.
“They can have a car from Monday to Sunday and Kenyans are starving. So what are you going to do differently to Kenyans?” She posed.
The Azimio supporter also gave Ruto pressure by asking him to admit whether he would concede defeat in the forthcoming general elections for the sake of peace.
“Second question, should you not win the election are you going to concede defeat and advocate for peace in our country? Because we know the story and we are all eyes watching.
On his side, Ruto avoided the corruption question and went straight to castigate the handshake, stating that the first term of the Jubilee government was better than the second term.
As usual, the deputy president went ahead to name the many kilometers of roads they delivered on their first term.
“Unfortunately in our second term because of the political dynamics that came into play, the president told me that he wanted to do things differently and that he did not want to do things as Uhuruto. When he told me he wanted to run the government alone, I was not fussy about it. He decided that someone else could do my responsibilities during the first term.” Lamented Ruto as he cleverly avoided the corruption question from the woman.
