Kajiado county is counting losses after a multi million bridge that was recently launched got washed away by flooding water.
Paai Bridge was constructed at a cost of Kshs100 million and was launched by governor Joseph Ole Lenku on February 17.
The bridge could however not withstand the force of raging waters that followed a heavy downpour in the county on Wednesday.
The bridge was constructed on River Olkeriai to serve three sub-counties, namely Kajiado East, Central and South.
“Paai Bridge is one project that transcends regional boundaries to transform the livelihoods of communities. Today, the new Paai bridge opens up the horticultural belt of Kajiado East, Central and South and connects both the farming and pastoralist communities in the area.
“Just a year ago, when it rains, trucks full of horticultural produce would get stuck at Olkeriai River for days wasting all the produce and thus occasioning huge losses to traders. I’m glad this is one of the legacy projects that will serve people in three Kajiado Sub-Counties,” governor Lenku said during the launch of the bridge.

A number of Kenyans have however claimed that shoddy work was done on the bridge while others suggested that there is a probability that only a small percent of the Kshs100 million was used on the bridge and the rest went to people’s pockets.

“When God, the gods and all the ancestors are against you…the nigga thinks by hiding in Azimio his incompetence and theft of public funds will go unnoticed…the more reason I will vote their opponents so they can face consequences of such actions,” Harris Willy said.
“Kenyan style, of the 100m, maybe only 50m was used for the bridge.. the rest went to people’s pocket.. vote the baga out,” Ikere Francis tweeted.
