Bread consumers should expect new prices of the commodity as from February 15, 2022, according to mini bakeries.
The company said that Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to be able to purchase bread due to the increase in prices of raw materials for making bread.
“To all our customers, due to the rise in prices of raw materials used for making our bread, We wish to inform you that the price of our bread will be as follows,” the company said.
A 200g mini loaf will be going at Kshs32.50 for wholesale and Kshs35.00 for retail. 400g supa loaf will cost Kshs55.00 for wholesale and retail at Kshs60.00.
The 600g loaf will be sold at Kshs80.00 in wholesale and retail at Kshs85.00, the 800g one will be going for Kshs 100.00 in wholesale and Kshs110.00 in retail while the 1.5kg loaf will cost Ksh190.00 for wholesale and retail at Kshs200.00.
Currently, the 200g mini loaf costs Kshs30 in retail while the 400g one goes for 55. The prices were reached in April last year.
Following the announcement a section of Kenyans wondered whether there are still people who rely on bread for breakfast when there are alternatives like potatoes and arrow roots.
“Bread is for those who work from offices…what’s that 10 Bob added to them anyway?” Lelei senior posed.
“Nduma, Ndizi, Ngwashe, are very cheap and much more affordable for breakfast,” Amos Edwin tweeted.
“The president is really working hard indeed,” Kawanjiku’s comment read.
“Are there people still eating bread in the morning? Kwani Niko Dunia gani,” Mkurugenzi moja said.
“Na raila na atwoli bado wamenyamaza,|” said Wanjohi.
