Devolution cabinet secretary Charles Keter has officially dumped president Uhuru Kenyatta’s government for deputy president William Ruto.
Charles Keter while issuing a statement on Tuesday stated that he will be joining politics and it was the reason he opted to resign and commence campaigns prior to the political parties nominations.
The cabinet secretary also said that he is fully behind William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party from today henceforth.
CS Charles keter was recently demoted by president Uhuru Kenyatta from the energy sector to the devolution ministry that controls a mere 3 billion shillings budget annually.
He served the ministry of energy since he was appointed by president Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy president William Ruto in 2015.
Amongst the projects he achieved while at the energy sector was overseeing the last mile electricity connectivity program.
The resignation by Charles Keter comes just weeks after RiftValley Regional Commissioner Mr. George Natembeya equally resigned from his position to join the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race.
Mr. Natembeya will face off with Trans-Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Abraham Sing’oei and Maurice Bissau who are both officials at deputy president William Ruto’s office. All these leaders want to succeed the incumbent governor Mr. David Khaemba.
George Natembeya clarified that his decision to quit the government was informed by constant pressure from his competitors who have been urging him to resign then face them.
“My rivals have been asking me to quit office and face them in Trans Nzoia. As from Wednesday, I will hang my boots to teach them about leadership,” he said.
Charles Keter who recently attended a rally by the deputy president used the opportunity to allay speculation that he had ditched the UDA leader.
“I have walked with the DP since 2006 when he first attempted to vie for presidency. I declare that I will stick with him until he becomes the fifth President of Kenya. There are some who have been going around claiming that Keter is not in UDA. I now am declaring in broad daylight that I am in UDA,” Keter stated.
