President Uhuru Closes Down Ruto’s Favorite Airport Wilson

Date:

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, January 18th 2021 ordered that Wilson airport to be temporarily closed.

The head of state issued this order moments before Janos Ader, the president of Hungary travelled outside Nairobi using a passenger plane. It  is reported that President Ader was to pay a visit to either Masai Mara or Diani by the use of a local flight.

However, the president issued a directive that he gets flown by the Kenya Airforce to the destination of his choice. As a result, all passengers within the Wilson Airport had to alight from their planes in the wake of the military taking over the place.

This move did not however go well with the majority of Kenyans who were to travel via the airport. Their flights were delayed until the visiting head of state flew out of the premises.

“We were asked to alight from our planes as all flights were grounded. Most of us have been here since 10 am. Our plane was scheduled for the afternoon but we are now stuck and delayed. We are not yet sure on when operations will resume,” said a passenger who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke.

Security was further tightened at Wilson airport with the Kenya Airforce and Recce patrolling the airstrip.

The Hungarian President János Áder arrived in Kenya late Sunday for a four-day state visit accompanied by First Lady Anita Herczegh. They jetted in on an Air Force jet and was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo.

According to Kanze Dena, Kenya and Hungary enjoy warm and strong bilateral ties dating back to 1964 when Hungary established an Embassy in Nairobi.

President Áder will also visit Ghana where he will view a sewage treatment plant in Kumasi, which employs Hungarian technology.

He is the first Hungarian president to visit Ghana since 1989
