‘I Am Not Competing Against President Kenyatta, We Are Friends’ – DP Ruto Says

Date:

Deputy President William Ruto has come out to claim that he is not in a competition with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The DP said those competing with him are hiding behind the president instead of facing him directly.

During an Interview with a local television station DP Ruto said his competitors are hiding behind the President.

“My competitors do not want to compete with me directly. They are saying they are handshake supporters and hiding behind the President,” Ruto said.

The DP further said despite their political differences, Uhuru is still his friend.

Uhuru has on many occasions hinted at supporting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga for the 2022 presidential contest.

DP Ruto’s allies have long castigated the Head of State, accusing him of side lining his deputy who has been part and parcel for top job in 2013 and 2018.

The second in command went on to call out his political rivals to face him head-on instead of ‘hiding’ behind President Kenyatta in order to garner his support in next year’s General Election.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since castigated his deputy for engaging in early campaigns.
