JSC Suspends Hearing Of Petitions Seeking To Remove Judge Chitembwe From Office Indefinitely

Date:

The Judicial Service Commission has postponed the hearing of petitions seeking to remove Judge Said Juma Chitembwe from office.

This comes after the judge asked for more time to file his response on the allegations against him.

Chitembwe is facing corruption allegations after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko exposed him.

He moved to court seeking to bar JSC from hearing four petitions filed against him. The petitions were filed by Mike Sonko, Francis Wambua, Imgrad Geige and David Leboo Ole Kilusu.

The four petitions had been set for hearing on Tuesday, December 14.

He argued that the evidence  that the four have against him was illegally obtained and a breach of his privacy.  Chitembwe said that he did not authorize anyone to release the conversations

The high court however dismissed the judge’s application on Friday last week saying it would be interfering with JSC’s mandate.

“The application is based on an allegation that the petitioner was not given sufficient time to respond. That is an issue that JSC can deal with. I have therefore not been shown any violation of the law to make this court grant the prayers sought by the petitioner at this point” Justice Hedwig Ong’udi ruled.
