Police Are Hunting Down A Burglar Who Stole 15 Royal Pythons

Date:

Police are looking for 15 royal pythons that were stolen in Hillmorton, Warwickshire, England on Saturday.

According to the police, the pythons were stolen from a property around the Rugby area in the morning by a burglar who also made away with keys and cash.

The burglar is believed to have packed the reptiles into a wheeled holdall after forcing entry to the house on Horne Close. He is then said to have escaped through a nearby cemetery.

“An offender is understood to have forced entry to the property and carried out an untidy search before removing the snakes, a wheeled holdall, a quantity of cash and some keys,” Warwickshire Police said.

The police however say that the pythons have individual marks that would make it easy to identify them once they surface.

Royal pythons are also called ball python and scientifically as python regius. They are native to the forests of Central and Western Africa and grow about 4 feet long.

The name ball python refers to its tendency to curl into a ball when stressed or frightened. They are nonvenomous hence kept as pets.

The reptiles are hunted for their skins, meat and use in traditional medicine.
