An autopsy conducted on the body of slain journalist Gatonye Gatura indicates that he died from strangulation and trauma by a blunt object.
According to the autopsy report by pathologist Titus Ngulungu, the deceased died due to lack of air in his brain that was caused by being strangled with a computer cable.
The postmortem was conducted on the deceased’s body on Monday at the Naivasha Subcounty Hospital Mortuary.
The pathologist said that the cable was tied around the journalist’s neck therefore denying him oxygen.
Speaking to journalists after concluding the exercise, Ngulungu said that the deceased also had an injury at the back of his head that was inflicted by a blunt object.
“There was a struggle which saw the deceased hit with a blunt object at the back of the head as the killers used the wire to kill him,” he said.
The pathologist further said that it was unclear how the deceased’s body stayed in the bushes for days without members of the public noticing.
The deceased’s body was discovered on October 26, dumped near Kihoto estate along Naivasha- Mai Mahiu road with a wire around his neck.
He was booked at the mortuary as an unidentified male since he did not have any identification documents when his body was found.
His body was only identified last week after the police collected his fingerprints that were positively identified by the registrar of persons.
Before his death, the journalist contributed to the The Standard newspaper and also ran a website Rocket Science. He previously worked for the Nation newspaper
The journalist will be laid to rest at his family home in Tigoni, Limuru on Thursday.
