MP Cycles To Hospital After Going Into Labour

Date:

A New Zealand politician has left social media users in awe after she opted to cycle all the way to the hospital when she went into labour.

After arriving at the hospital, Julie Anne Genter delivered her bundle of joy just an hour later.

The politician said that she had not planned to ride a bicycle to hospital but she ended up doing so. Her contractions were  however not that bad.

“Big news! At 3.04am this morning we welcomed the newest member of our family. I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in labour, but it did end up happening. My contractions weren’t that bad when we left at 2am to go to the hospital – though they were 2-3 min apart and picking up in intensity by the time we arrived 10 minutes later,” the MP shared on Facebook.

“And amazingly now we have a healthy, happy little one sleeping, as is her dad. Feeling blessed to have had excellent care and support from a great team, in what turned out to be a very fast (and happily uncomplicated) birth,” she further said.

This was the second time the 41-year old was taking such a trip. Three years ago, when she was a minister, Genter also cycled to the hospital to give birth to her firstborn.

Genter is a well known and outspoken advocate for cycling.

In 2018, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made history after taking her three-month old to the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
