Many people were feared dead along the busy Narok Mai Mahiu road on Saturday night after four vehicles burst into flames.
The four vehicles had been involved in a tragic road accident which saw them burn beyond recognition. Following the unfortunate incident along Narok Mai Mahiu road, several onlookers stormed the scene in a bid to have a glance of what had actually happened.
The police later arrived at the scene and joined the good Samaritans who had commenced rescuing operations.
According to reports on the ground, many people were badly injured with a good number feared dead due to the crash.
So serious was the accident that many people were trapped inside the vehicles that were burning even as the traffic police officers and other commuters aided with basic items such as the fire extinguishers.
The incident caused a huge traffic snarl-up along the busy Narok Mai Mahiu road, forcing the police to divert vehicles to allow easy movement.
In the meantime, nine people passed on recently in a fatal road accident in Kilifi County along the Kaloleni Mazeras highway. The grisly road accident involved a 14 seater matatu and a lorry.
The accident was confirmed by the Kaloleni legislator Mr. Paul Katana. According to the member of parliament, the road accident was caused by a coalition between a matatu and a lorry.
”The accident occurred two kilometers from the place I was in between the border of Rabai and Kaloleni,” said the Member of parliament. It is reported that the lorry was coming from Kaloleni town to Mombasa before it collided with a matatu that was going the opposite direction.
The incident was also confirmed by the Kilifi County Commander Mr. Stephen Matu who urged drivers and other road users to be careful on the roads and follow all the traffic rules to avoid such road accidents.
