The Hero In The Capture Of Three Kamiti Escapees Dispels Claims Of Being A Police Officer

Date:

Reports surfaced in social media claiming that Paul Mulati, the man who helped capture three Kamiti escapees, is a policeman.

This is after a photo of home donning in an NYS attire was shared on twitter by blogger Robert Alai.

Mulati has been trending online since the Thursday incident that saw him and his neighbors help in arresting Musharraf Abdalla, Joseph Juma and Mohammed Abdi, who escaped Kamiti Maximum Prison on Monday.

“He is a prison warden? Awuoro!” Alai tweeted.

Mulati has however dispelled claims that he is a police officer saying that he only served in NYS over 10 years ago.

“I’m not a prison warden. On August 5, 2009, I was recruited to the NYS. I trained in Gilgil and that is a photo I took while there. People are confusing the NYS beret with that of the prison warden because they are quite similar,” Paul told a local website.

He revealed that his service number at the time was 107492 at the time. He also said that he has all the paramilitary skills he acquired during his training.

Paul, whose selfie photo with the three escapees has been shared widely on social media, said that the convicts were first spotted at Endau Malalani ward in Kitui.

“They walked in some sneaky way creating a zig-zag formation and crossed the road from one point to another. They also seemed to avoid any contact with other residents compelling them to walk through thorny bushes,” he told the media.

He said that he approached three police officers from the area and led them to where he first set his eyes on the escapees.

Together with the officers, they managed to apprehend one but the other two temporarily fled. The two were, however, apprehended minutes later as they were getting deeper into the forest.
