The suspect behind the stone throwing incident that was witnessed during DP William Ruto’s rally is Kondele has been arrested.
The suspect identified as Wilson Aminda, an employee of the Kisumu county government was arrested at his workplace.
Aminda is accused of leading a group of youths to hurl stones at DP Ruto in Kondele on Wednesday last week.
The police issued a statement saying that they had warned DP Ruto of the tension at Kondele but he did not heed their advice.
“This intelligence was promptly shared by the police with H.E the Deputy President’s team with a recommendation to skip the affected area during the tour…During the rally, violence erupted amongst the local agitated groups who engaged in stone-throwing and other unruly behaviour,” part of the statement by the police spokesperson Bruno Shioso read.
He further said that the violence was a result of the youths scrambling for the handouts that had been issued by DP Ruto during the tour.
Ruto supporters, however, claimed that the violence had been planned by a section of their political rivals.
They blamed the police for failing to carry out their responsibilities properly especially after being aware of the tension.
ODM leader Raila Odinga condemned the violence saying that neither he nor his party had anything to do with the incident.
“Our branch in Kisumu released a statement saying that Ruto should be allowed to campaign just like anybody else, and there should not be any chaos. Am not a child to organize people to hurl stones at Ruto, for what reason? Ruto is a small thing to me.(He can go to Kisumu, anywhere as he loiters, barks here and there, it is his right, he is human, if he brags, cough, spit, it very much okay, that is how our country’s politics is,” The ODM leader said in an interview with a local radio station.
