Wetangula’s Presidential Hopes Vanish As One Person Is Shot During FORD Kenya NDC

Date:

The political troubles facing Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula seems to be deepening after one person was shot during the FORD Kenya National Delegates Committee (NDC).

Apparently, Moses Wetangula was set to be named the FORD Kenya presidential flag-bearer in the meeting held on the better part of Thursday.

The Moses Wetangula FORD Kenya party has been facing leadership wrangles with some factions supporting the Bungoma senator while the other one backing the Kanduyi member of parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi.

The two factions on Thursday clashed bitterly after two bullets rented the air, forcing the delegates who were wearing green tshirts to storm out of the Bomas.

Earlier as reported by the Star, the Ford Kenya faction led by Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu announced it had put on hold its planned NDC meeting following an order by the Political Parties and Disputes Tribunal.

The tribunal stopped two parallel NDCs, one called by a faction led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and the other by Eseli’s wing.

Speaking at a press conference held at a Nairobi hotel on Thursday, Eseli said the order was served electronically on Wednesday at 4pm.

“Arrangements for our meeting were in high gear. We had secured and paid for a venue. Though aggrieved by the decision, we will abide by the orders as we have previously done,” he said.

Star added that the squabbling between the two factions had threatened to be a make or break for party leader Wetangu’la who was at risk of being toppled.

Eseli had planned to hold his meeting on Saturday but changed dates in what was seen as a plan to counter Wetang’ula.

At Wetangula’s meeting, the agenda is to review and ratify policies and rules of the party, amend the constitution, elect national officials and nominate the party’s presidential candidate.
