Kalonzo Musyoka’s Party Wiper Rebrands, Announces Change Of Name And Party Colors

Date:

Kalonzo Musyoka’s political Party Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya is rebranding with a color and name change ahead of 2022 elections.

In a notice to the registrar of political parties on Thursday November 4, Wiper said that it has dropped Kenya from its name and it will now be simply referred to Wiper as Democratic Movement.

The party also announced that it will change its colors from bold sky blue, white and earth red to royal blue, white and earth red.

“Pursuant to Section 20(2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya intends to change its name from Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (WDM-K) to Wiper Democratic Movement and its party colors from bold sky blue, white and earth red to royal blue, white and earth red,” read the notice.

Last year, Kalonzo said that the party’s rebranding will affect its colors and name. He however said that the aim to rebrand Wiper was to make it more acceptable to Kenyans.

“We have taken the initiative to rebrand Wiper including the name and even the color. Many people have complained about why we are calling ourselves a body part of a vehicle,” Kalonzo said in the past.

This is the second time the party is rebranding after a name change in December 2011 when it changed its name from ODM-Kenya to WDM-K.

The party’s symbol was changed from one and a half orange to an umbrella and adopted the sky blue, white and earth red colors.

The party’s offices were also moved from Lavington to the current location along Kufuga Road, off Langata Road in Karen, Nairobi.
