Terrorist Sympathizer? Mohammed Ali Explains Why Terror Suspect He Bailed Disappeared

Date:

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali faced arrest after terror suspect identified as Noordin Hassan Abdallah whom he bailed failed to honor his date with the court.

The Nyali legislator took the surety to ensure that Abdalla appears in court and abide by the bail conditions.

Abdallah failed to appear in court as required on October 4th and November 1st, 2021, prompting court to summon Mohammed Ali.

However, the Nyali MP also failed to honor the court summon and Kwale Principal Magistrate was forced to issue a warrant of arrest against him.

Following the unfolding events, many people labelled the Nyali MP a terrorist sympathizer and savagely trolled him on social media.

Mohammed Ali responded to his critics in lengthy post on social media, answering all queries about the terror suspect.

“The naysayers were celebrating that they had finally succeeded in nailing me. Some even went to the extent of branding me as a terrorist sympathizer. Let me put facts straight. In 2016 long before I joined politics, I stood surety for a young man well known to me. I deposited a sum of Kshs. 50,000/- as cash bail.

“Since then, the young man attended court sessions religiously as required until the advent of Coronavirus pandemic when inter-county restrictions were enforced. With closure of courts, the dates given were interrupted and the young man lost track. With the resumption of courts, warrants of arrest against him were issued.

“After several mentions, the court issued summons for my attendance to explain the accused’s whereabouts. Ever since the warrants of arrest were issued, I have been in constant communication with officers from Kwale, Mombasa and Nyali with a view of apprehending the accused. During the last court attendance, the matter had been fixed for mention on 18/11/2021 which date is 2 weeks away. I was surprised to learn from the media that there are warrants of arrest against me in place.

“For the records, I have not been served with any summons and/or warrants but as a law abiding citizen, I took it upon myself to present myself to court immediately. Now that the police have produced the accused, the court has lifted the warrants in place against me, discharged me as a surety and ordered a refund of my cash bail.

“So for those who were celebrating, please cut off the crap. @donaldkipkorir I thought that by virtue of being an advocate, you appreciate the presumption of innocence. But I know it’s the politics of the day that has clouded your appreciation of the law. @standardkenya please give this authentic and factual exposition a 2-page reservation in your skewed reporting.

“Otherwise you can go to Kwale Law Courts and request for file CR No. 846/2016. Please get the facts right. Otherwise for the naysayers, you still have a long way to go. You can have whatever you think you have but we have God. Until then niacheni ninywe dafu langu kwa amani?. Nyali iko Love,” wrote Mohammed Ali.
