Moses Kuria, the Gatundu South MP on Tuesday, May 19, was on the attack following a controversial poll posted by political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.
In the poll posted on Monday, May 18, Ngunyi opined that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association (GEMA) nation was being auctioned off by Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking to a local news site, the Gatundu South MP argued that it was the constitutional right of any block to vote for the leader of their choice.
“We are just tired of people begrudging us for our choices. Thrice we made a decision to support Kibaki 100 percent in ‘97, ‘02, and ‘07. No one had an issue with that. Twice we made a decision to support Uhuru Kenyatta 100 percent in ‘13 and ‘17.
“Kenyans have been saying that GEMA can not support another tribe. Willingly and without being forced they have settled on William Ruto,” he told this writer alluding to the shift in the political wind in the region.
The Jubilee politician stated that he even offered himself as a candidate but the feedback from the region was that of supporting another tribe.
“So what have we done wrong to deserve being called stupid? I thought we deserve bouquets, not barbs for supporting a person from another tribe. We are staring at a major uprising, nay, revolution in GEMA Nation,” he conveyed.
He further argued that the wanton corruption and mismanagement of public funds rampant in the government was not what the people who fought for independence had in mind for Kenya.
“They disrespected our fathers who fought for independence. We will fight for our honour and our dignity. Look at the demolitions in Kariobangi and Ruai all meant to pave way for foolish unbridled wealth accumulation. How much more can we swallow without rising up? Enough is enough,” he concluded.
Kuria has been vocal over the demolitions in Kariobangi that saw over 7,000 families left homeless hinting that the destruction was to pave way for an ultra-modern development complex.
On Monday, May 11, he alleged that the 2013 and 2017 general elections could have been rigged in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta following the ouster of Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika from the Majority Leader and Majority Whip positions in the Senate respectively.
