Buru Buru Girls Fire: School Administration Sets Condition For Students To Leave For Home

Date:

Students of Buruburu Girls High School have been allowed to go home following the Sunday evening fire incident.

The girls have been allowed to go home for a few days as investigations  into the incident are undertaken.

The students will however leave the school compound in company of their parents or guardians.

Those who will not be picked up by their parents and guardians will have to stay within the school compound for the number of days their colleagues will be away under tight security.

The school’s administration has warned that any student who will be found to have been involved with the incident will face the law.

The fire incident left over 50 students with injuries. According to videos shared in social media, students who were trapped in the building were forced to jump out through the window.

So far 19 students are still admitted at Metropolitan Hospital and 16 others at Jamaa hospital. All the girls are in a stable condition but one of them has a fractured leg.

According to the school’s principal Caroline Maina, the fire began shortly after a guiding and counselling session with form one and form two students.

“I had a baraza with form one and form two from morning until around 2:30 pm where I had even invited counselors to talk to the students. It is after the counseling session that I invited my guests for late lunch. As I was walking back, a teacher approached me notifying me that one of the dormitories was on fire,” Maina said.

Worried parents were blocked by the police from accessing the school on Sunday due to security reasons.
