Angry Ruto Lectures Indiscipline Bodyguards After A Scuffle In Mombasa

Deputy president William Ruto lashed out at his bodyguards after they got embroiled in a scuffle with a crowd of people attending his rally in Mombasa.

Ruto has been crisscrossing the Coast region since last week in a bid to persuade resident to back his 2022 presidential bid.

The deputy president traversed coastal counties holding rallies that attracted huge crowds at different stopovers during his week-long tour.

In Mombasa, Ruto was mobbed by a large number of people which gave his security detail a hard time managing the crowds.

Ruto’s bodyguards were embroiled in a scuffle with a crowd of people attending his rally in Mombasa forcing the DP to intervene.

Ruto was forced to pause his speech to lecture his bodyguards who were busy beating people who would come near him.

The ordered his security detail to stand down and allow people to move closer to the podium from where he was addressing them.

“Munaweza kuja mukaribie hapa, hakuna problem nyinyi kujeni karibia hapa…. hakuna shida, kujeni hapa karibu hakuna shida,” Ruto told the crowd after commanding his bodyguards to stand down.

Ruto’s security bubble comprises of elite presidential Escort Unit (PEU), a division under the Kenya Police Service, which is tasked with providing protection to the president, the DP and their families.

Ruto is also protected by regular police wherever he goes. Cumulatively, the strength of personnel allocated to the DP is 257 officers.

According to a document tabled by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i in parliament in September amid a row over the DP’s security, Ruto is the most guarded holder of the office in post-Independence Kenya.

“Currently, 121 officers from the Administration Police and Prisons Services are providing security at the DP’s various residences. In addition to the 74 Presidential Escort personnel, six officers from the DCI and five drivers from the GSU are deployed,” Matiang’i told MPs.
