President Uhuru Says He’ll Explain Why He Is Hiding Money In Offshore Accounts

Date:

Hours after the Pandora report revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family are hiding billions of shillings in offshore assets, the President has told the country that he will explain to the country the reasons for their actions.

While echoing the importance of the report, the president said he will respond to the claims of the report once he returns to the country from his trip to the US where he is expected to address the UN General Assembly.

“My attention has been drawn to comments surrounding the Pandora Papers. Whilst I will respond comprehensively on my return from my State Visit to America,” the president said.

In a statement from the State House, the president also hailed the report noting that it will enhance the financial transparency and openness need in the country and worldwide.

“That these reports will go a long way in enhancing the financial transparency and openness that we require in Kenya and around the globe. The movement of illicit funds, proceeds of crime, and corruption thrive in an environment of secrecy and darkness,” President Uhuru said.

He noted that the subsequent follow-up audits will reveal the secrecy and darkness for those leaders who cannot explain the source of their assets and wealth.

“The Pandora Papers and subsequent follow-up audits will lift that veil of secrecy and darkness for those who cannot explain their assets or wealth,” President Kenyatta added.

The report claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family members are hiding assets worth billions of shilling in foreign countries.
