Increase Of Pakistan Nationals In Nairobi Raise More Concerns

Date:

Kenyans are continuously raising concerns following a sudden influx and increase of Pakistan Nationals in the streets of Nairobi.

For some time now, people believed to be Pakistan nationals have been entering various estates in Nairobi, something which has made a number of leaders air their opinion with regards to the same.

For instance, this is what Narok senator Ledama Olekina had to say: “I received a phone call at 6am from a friend Mr. Kubai complaining about the influx of Foreigners of Asian origin into his estate and I immediately took the matter to the Senate and the response from the executive is encouraging… thank you Mr. President for caring.”

The senate committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations had sought details to understand the mission of these Pakistan nationals in the country and whether they were legally in Kenya.

Further the senate wanted the government of Kenya to state whether it accepted any refugees from Afghanistan, and if so, state any terms of reference for hosting the refugees.

In response, the ministry of interior and coordination of the National Government confirmed that indeed these travelers originated from Pakistan and have valid Transit Visas to Saudi Arabia that are issued on arrival.

The ministry further added that they were concerned with the threats of spreading Covid-19 pandemic as a result of the influx of foreign travellers transiting through the country.

“Subsequently, the government has ordered an immediate crackdown of foreigners who are in the country illegally. The exercise will be undertaken by the Department of Immigration and the National Police Service.

“Going forward, the Government will restrict the number of foreigners transiting through the country to levels that do not pose a risk to Kenya’s national interests.” Read part of the statement by the national government.
