A woman identified as Vigilance Shighi has revealed details that led to her stabbing to death her engineer boyfriend, Edward Okello, after a domestic squabble allegedly involving a tussle over washing dishes.
The incident happened on Saturday, May 9, in Nairobi’s Umoja II Estate at around 8:30 p.m. with Okello being rushed to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where he succumbed to the stab wounds.
Shighi, the prime suspect in the murder was identified by neighbours and arrested immediately after police arrived at the scene.
In a video that surfaced on Sunday, May 10, where the woman was being questioned, Shighi revealed the events that led to her stabbing the boyfriend to death.
“I don’t know what happened, amongst the fighting and the push and pull, we asked each other what’s not happening.
“I don’t know anything. If I have to be jailed because he is the one who is hurt, it’s okay. He beat me repeatedly, a woman will take anything to defend herself, I took a cup and threw it at him.
“As we were throwing stuff at each other…let me tell you the truth I swear before God I don’t know what happened next, all I know is that he beat me.
“I don’t know what happened I cook for him every day and do everything for him. I don’t know, the knife was just there, all I know is that we were fighting,” said the woman.
The incident was reported by Stephen Orad who is attached to VIP of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
The slain boyfriend was working as an Airplane Engineer at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
This is the second case of killings that have happened at Umoja Estate after a woman allegedly stabbed her two children, aged 2 and 6, to death, before attempting suicide after a fight with her own mother.
