A couple is being held at the Kilgoris police station in Narok county following the death of their 8-year old daughter.
The minor lost her life after being hit on the head with a wooden object by her father who was engaged in a fight with his wife.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the man attempted to hit his wife with the object but missed the target and ended up hitting his daughter.
The couple who were engaged in the late night fight immediately stopped fighting to attend to their injured daughter.
“The two Esther Kaiseyi, 21 and Amos Maengwe, 30, who were on each other’s throats in the 10pm incident, immediately stopped their fight and together carried their daughter to hospital for medical attention,” DCI said.
They were stopped by police officers who were on patrol on their way to the health center.
“Along the way, they were stopped by police officers on the beat who owing to the condition of the little girl who had a deep cut on her head, rushed them to nearby Kilgoris sub-county hospital to help save the life of the minor. She was in critical condition,” the statement further read.
The girl’s condition had worsened by the time they reached the health facility and doctors’ efforts to save her did not bear fruits.
“Upon arrival at the facility, doctors tried to attend to the girl whose condition had worsened, but unfortunately she lost her life while undergoing treatment,” DCI said.
The suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
