Sharon Otieno’s mother Melida Auma tossed herself into the political arena and announced that she would vie for MCA seat in Homa Bay county. She has now dropped her bid.
Weeks ago, Ms Auma said she was seeking to be the next MCA for Homa Bay Town West Ward on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, a political party associated with the deputy president William Ruto.
ODM is the most dominant political party in Homa Bay but Auma nonetheless chose UDA because she couldn’t secure the former’s ticket.
UDA is hard sell especially in Luo Nyanza as Ruto is the fiercest rival for Raila who enjoys fanatical support in the region.
Sharon Otieno’s mother was counting on ODM to give her a direct ticket. She says ODM leaders had promised to ‘stand by her’ but disappeared after her daughter’s burial in 2018.
Speaking during an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo on Thursday September 16th, Auma revealed that she has since dropped her bid to vie for MCA seat.
Sharon’s mother claimed that the people of Homa Bay implored her to contest for Women Representative seat instead.
“Nlikua nahitaji hio position ya MCA lakini on public demand mamake Sharon anatarajiwa honorable Women Rep wa Homa Bay. She is going to represent the hustlers like her,” said Auma.
She further added that she has always been a politician and as such she has what it takes to represent the people of Homa Bay county as their Woman Rep.
“I don’t have any godfather, generally I was born a politician even in college I was the vice chair. Before I endulge in the world of politics, I was pushed by the community especially the people from my ward that I should represent them as an MCA and that much the community knows,” said Auma.
Sharon’s mother also reiterated that she was in the hustler movement and that she will contest Homa Bay Woman Rep seat on UDA ticket.
“Nko kwa party ya naibu wa rais, party ya Ruto. Watu wa Homa Bay wako chonjo sana na hii party ya hustler ju wengi wao ni hustlers,” said Auma.
