CS Magoha’s Message To Havi On His Plans To Challenge CBC In Court

Date:

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has told off those who are against the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) while describing their complaints as nonsense.

Speaking on Thursday while on a tour to schools in the Western region, Magoha defended the new education curriculum against the calls to have it postponed.

“All this nonsense you are hearing ignore them and I can assure you. In my life, I think the only thing that is happened now is the Competency-Based Curriculum. Let us not allow busybodies and politicians to divert us. Why would you think that we are not working behind the curtains to ensure that the transition is smooth?” Magoha posed.

Before Magoha’s made his remarks, the Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi had announced that he will head to court to challenge CBC.

Through a tweet, Havi described CBC as expensive and inefficient. He further said that he was taking the move following a series of complaints from parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector.

Magoha however accused politicians and ‘busybodies’ for attacking CBC which is on its implementation stage.

He  said that his ministry is aware of the challenges facing CBC and its working to have them addressed. He also said that the government is working hard to ensure that implementation of CBC is successful.

“It is also true that we have an infrastructure problem. How do you want us to deal with it? We are dealing with it. And I have said many times most schools are not filled to capacity. One does not become a professor without going to school. Some of those people who shout look at their credentials!” Magoha said

At the same time, The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) pleaded with parents to exercise patience as the education body worked to resolve concerns raised by parents on the cost of books.
